UAE Delegation Spearheads Sustainability Dialogue at Hamburg Conference

HAMBURG: Mariam Almheiri, representing the United Arab Emirates, led a delegation to the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, advocating for global partnerships and presenting the UAE’s advancements in sustainability and international relations. The conference, inaugurated by Germany’s Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, highlighted international cooperation on sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on transforming global challenges into actionable opportunities.

According to Emirates News Agency, Mariam Almheiri, Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court, attended the conference on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. Her participation, alongside representatives from the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored the nation’s commitment to addressing global sustainability and energy issues through dialogue and cooperation.

During the conference, Almheiri engaged in a High-Level Panel
Discussion and held strategic meetings with key German officials, including Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Hamburg’s First Mayor, and Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for Economic Co-operation and Development. These discussions focused on the legacy of COP28, the progress of the UAE-Germany Green Coast Initiative, and potential collaborations in developing Hamburg’s hydrogen market.

Almheiri highlighted the UAE’s strong diplomatic relations with Germany, emphasizing their shared goals in promoting sustainable development and peace. The talks also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange on environmental conservation and economic integration, reflecting the UAE’s proactive role in fostering international cooperation.

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference, hosted for the first time in 2024, brought together 1600 participants from 102 countries. The event aimed at accelerating the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals through forums on reshaping financial architectures, unleashing investments for t
he SDGs, and leveraging transformations for sustainable futures.
