Lebanon Interior Minister Convenes Emergency Security Meeting Amid Displacement Crisis

Beirut: Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, held a crucial meeting with provincial governors and representatives from various security and military forces on Monday to address the ongoing security challenges posed by the significant displacement resulting from Israeli aggression.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the meeting aimed to deliberate on the necessary decisions required to maintain security and order in Beirut and other Lebanese provinces amidst the escalating displacement crisis. Minister Mawlawi emphasized the urgency of implementing exceptional measures and enhancing coordination between administrative and security bodies to safeguard all areas, including those hosting displaced populations and shelter centers.

Minister Mawlawi reassured the public that despite the large influx of displaced individuals, security breaches have been minimal and effectively managed by the security forces and the Lebanese army, which has been actively patrolling to pr
event any unrest. He highlighted the effectiveness of the security measures already in place, noting that any incidents had been swiftly dealt with.

During the discussion, Mawlawi also addressed additional challenges such as traffic congestion in Beirut and the imperative to maintain the city’s public image. Efforts by police and other security forces to secure shelter centers and protect public and private property were also underscored.

The meeting followed a previous security gathering that involved top security officials and judicial figures where the importance of proactive security measures was stressed. Minister Mawlawi had urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to authorities to avert potential tensions between displaced individuals and host communities.

Further, Mawlawi extended his condolences to the families of soldiers who recently fell in the line of duty, affirming the sacrifices made by the army and security forces in maintaining national safety. He called for unity among Lebanes
e citizens in support of their security and military forces. Regarding the security at Beirut Airport, Mawlawi confirmed that all security and military units are diligently fulfilling their responsibilities to ensure the facility’s safety, following directives from the Ministry of Interior and the government.
