Lebanese MPs Call for Stronger Parliamentary Action and Unity Amid National Crisis

Bikfaya: Lebanese Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel hosted a critical meeting with independent MPs Ibrahim Mneimeh and Firas Hamdan to discuss Lebanon’s current challenges and the urgent need for parliamentary action amidst the ongoing conflict. The meeting emphasized the necessity of immediate efforts to halt the conflict and address the presidential vote stalemate, aiming to protect national interests and stabilize the country.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the discussions held at Gemayel’s office in Bikfaya were centered on the alarming developments in Lebanon due to the devastating war. The meeting, attended by prominent party figures including Joelle Bou Abboud and Patrick Richa, also tackled the issue of displaced persons and the importance of facilitating their return to prevent further social crises.

The participants expressed grave concerns about the ongoing conflict and stressed the imperative to implement United Nations Resolution 1701, which advocates for the disarmament of armed g
roups and the deployment of the Lebanese army across the southern region and expanding its mandate. MP Ibrahim Mneimeh highlighted the recent parliamentary call for members to actively fulfill their roles, noting the critical need to articulate Lebanon’s official stance separately from the Gaza front.

The talks also delved into the deadlock over the presidential vote, with Mneimeh urging for unity and a clear agenda to guide Lebanon out of its impasse. He emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of non-state arms post-war and pursuing necessary reforms to aid the country’s recovery.

Concluding the meeting, Mneimeh described the discussions as highly positive, underscoring the significant common ground found with the Kataeb Party. He expressed hope for ongoing dialogue with all political factions to foster maximum consensus and cooperation, aiming to navigate Lebanon through its array of crises effectively.
