Bou Habib Discusses Lebanon’s Crisis with Vatican Secretary in Rome

Rome: Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib met with Vatican Secretary of State Paul Richard Gallagher on Monday to discuss the ongoing political and social crises in Lebanon, including the precarious situation of Christian towns in the country’s south and the stalled presidential elections.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Bou Habib expressed that during the meeting, he perceived deep concerns from the Vatican regarding the worsening conditions in Lebanon, particularly affecting 16 Christian towns in south Lebanon. The Vatican also expressed apprehension over the political deadlock that has hindered the election of a new Lebanese president.

“The Vatican’s readiness to assist Lebanon in navigating out of this crisis was evident, and there was a mutual understanding on the urgent need to halt the violence and alleviate the suffering of the people,” Bou Habib stated after the discussions. This meeting underscores the international attention on Lebanon’s multifaceted crisis and the efforts
to engage global actors in seeking solutions.
