Arab League Secretary-General Calls for Immediate Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701

Ain al-tineh: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized the urgent need for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to address the crisis in Lebanon, during his speech in Ain al-Tineh on Monday. Aboul Gheit underscored the critical situation in the region, highlighted by recent Israeli violence, and called for an immediate ceasefire and the election of a Lebanese president.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Aboul Gheit expressed deep sadness over the ongoing conflict and the significant loss of life, criticizing the negligence of a global power that professes to uphold principles internationally. He stressed that Resolution 1701 is pivotal and its full and immediate implementation is necessary to stabilize the situation.

Aboul Gheit also voiced concerns over the treatment of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon and the lack of a strong response from the UN Security Council regarding Israeli attacks. He called for Lebanon to receive guarantees against further I
sraeli aggression and firmly rejected any foreign interference in Lebanese affairs. The Secretary-General’s remarks reaffirmed the Arab League’s support for Lebanon amidst its ongoing political and social turmoil.
