Ministry of Energy Official Highlights Women’s Roles in Jordan’s Energy Sector

Amman: The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Amani Azzam, underscored the critical role of women in Jordan’s energy sector, highlighting gender integration as a constitutional and legal mandate. Her remarks came during a dialogue session titled “Exploring the Future of Integration in the Energy Sector,” part of a USAID-funded Energy Sector Support Program.

According to Jordan News Agency, Azzam emphasized the promising job opportunities for both men and women during the ongoing energy transition. This transition aligns with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and its pursuit of cleaner, sustainable energy solutions. Azzam noted that the Kingdom aims to position itself as a regional leader in the green hydrogen industry through strategic agreements and partnerships, thereby creating new opportunities for women to manage green hydrogen projects. Efforts are underway to build the necessary infrastructure to support women’s involvement in these initiatives.

Azzam identified a
dditional sectors with potential for women’s involvement, including transportation, electrical interconnection, chemical industries, electric vehicles, and energy networks. Rasha Marar, representing the Planning and Development Directorate at the Ministry, shared her insights from participating in the “Women in Leadership Positions” program, which enhanced her skills in communication and relationship building. Marar called for increased solidarity to help women in the energy sector overcome challenges and become leaders.

The Ministry has enrolled 23 female employees in a “Leadership Development Program” to further empower women within the sector.
