Dibba Al Hisn Municipality Unveils First Residential Gardens in Sharjah

General

DIBBA AL HISN: Dibba Al Hisn Municipality has launched its first model of residential gardens in the Emirate of Sharjah, marking a notable achievement with the active involvement of local residents. This initiative addresses the need for accessible green spaces, promoting a healthy and secure environment for families, particularly children and the elderly, while aligning with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish “a garden in every home.”

According to Emirates News Agency, the concept for these gardens emerged from a municipal study that revealed insufficient internal space in Dibba Al Hisn homes for garden creation. To tackle this, the municipality identified appropriate external areas that meet the requirements for residential gardens, each spanning approximately 70 square meters. This development aims to enhance the quality of life for city residents by providing nearby gardens.

Research underscores the significance of garde
ns in fostering the physical and mental health of children and the elderly. These spaces offer a secure environment for children to engage in play and develop motor and social skills, while also encouraging the elderly to partake in light physical activities and outdoor enjoyment, thereby promoting general health and reducing stress.

Talib Abdullah Al Yahyaei, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, stated, “This initiative is part of the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to achieve environmental sustainability by planting all available areas and providing green spaces that help improve air quality and reduce temperatures, which contributes to combating climate change.”

Al Yahyaei further emphasized the initiative’s goal of ensuring happiness and well-being for citizens and residents by establishing a healthy and safe environment for children and the elderly. This move demonstrates the municipality’s dedication to enhancing quality of life
and pursuing sustainable development in the city.

Looking ahead, Dibba Al Hisn Municipality plans to introduce numerous residential gardens to fulfill the needs of residents and families, contributing to a future vision of maximizing available space usage and providing gardens for children. This initiative serves as a valuable supplement to neighborhood gardens, supporting the realization of a comprehensive vision for a healthy and sustainable city.

To maintain sustainability, the municipality has outlined requirements for residential garden design, such as using local plants with lower water needs, implementing smart irrigation systems for water efficiency, adopting flexible designs for easy garden modifications, offering safe and eco-friendly play areas, providing shaded seating for families, and dedicating small plots for growing vegetables and fruits to encourage agriculture.

The gardens feature signboards with instructions on garden usage and maintenance, environmental information, and residential gar
dening tips. Through this initiative, Dibba Al Hisn Municipality aims to balance urban development with environmental conservation, enhancing citizens’ quality of life and fostering a sense of happiness, well-being, and satisfaction.
