Mikati Praises Religious Leaders for Unity Amid Lebanon’s Crisis

BEIRUT: Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati lauded the efforts of Lebanese religious leaders following their crucial meeting at the Maronite Patriarchate in Bkerke, recognizing it as a significant step toward national unity in these challenging times. Mikati emphasized the importance of the gathering, which aimed to consolidate the nation’s efforts towards stability and peace.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Mikati expressed his gratitude towards the religious leaders for their unanimous call to the United Nations Security Council, urging it to intervene and halt what he described as a “humanitarian massacre” in Lebanon. He appreciated their efforts to foster trust among Lebanese citizens and strengthen the state’s institutions, emphasizing the necessity for unity in pursuing the national interest of Lebanon.

Mikati highlighted the religious leaders’ appeal to the government to seek support from Lebanon’s Arab allies and international friends to assist in rescuing the country. He underscored
the significance of the national appeal made at the meeting, describing it as a unifying charter that should guide Lebanon’s future actions. The prime minister reiterated the importance of adhering to the Lebanese Constitution and the Taif Agreement, maintaining the state’s authority, and ensuring the sovereignty, security, stability, and prosperity of the Lebanese people.
