Sharjah Conference Explores AI’s Role in Language and Global Communication

Sharjah: Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah, in partnership with Emirates Scholar Centre for Research and Studies, is set to host the inaugural Sharjah International Conference on AI and Linguistics (SICAL) from October 17th to 18th, 2024. The conference will delve into the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on language and global communication.

According to Emirates News Agency, SICAL will feature over 50 distinguished speakers and industry leaders from around the globe, including Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, UAE Minister of Culture; Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Egyptian Minister of Culture; Dr. Ashraf El-Shihy, Former Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara, Ambassador of Italy to the UAE; and Imed Zitouni, Director of Engineering at Google. These experts will discuss the revolutionary role of Natural Language Proce
ssing (NLP) in reshaping communication, linguistic studies, and fostering global collaboration.

The conference aims to be a pivotal platform for scholars, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore future language dynamics in the digital era. It is designed to encourage collaboration and innovation, highlighting AI’s capacity to enhance global communication while respecting and preserving cultural and linguistic diversity.

Over a dozen keynote speeches and panel discussions will address various critical issues, including the influence of AI on governmental language policies and its role in maintaining cultural identities in a rapidly evolving digital world.
