PM: Women issues receiving unprecedented support under Sisi

Egypt has achieved a breakthrough in women’s empowerment and gender equality over the past eight years, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said.

Women issues are receiving unprecedented support under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah Fattah El Sisi, President of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsy added in a speech she read out on behalf of Madbouli during the 1st conference for Arab Women CEOs (CEO WOMEN) hosted by Cairo, with Saudi Arabia participating as a guest of honor.

Madbouli noted that the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030, adopted by President Sisi in 2017, seeks to support women in leadership positions.

He added the government aims to increase the proportion of women in leadership positions to 30 per cent by 2030, citing presidential directives to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to follow up the status of women in decision-making positions.

In addition, Egypt pays great attention to empowering women through IP protection, the premier said.

Few days ago, the council launched an “Entrepreneurship” project in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to empower female entrepreneurs in local communities by raising women’s awareness about the importance of having their IP rights duly protected, the prime minister said.

Madbouli hoped that the conference will come up with effective recommendations that would contribute to raising the profile of women in leadership and executive positions.
